TURN OVER A STONE AND MOVE A BRANCH
It’s fun going on a turn-over hunt. Sometimes you can’t see a single animal in the forest. Where are they all? If it’s very hot, or very cold, or very windy, then the animals crawl away and shelter in bunches of grass, under stones and branches, or they hide under the loose bark of fallen trees. These are places where the climate is more comfortable for them, and they are safe from birds and other animals that eat insects and small creatures. So, get out there and start turning over stones, branches and pieces of bark. You never know what you’ll find when you look underneath things: rare animals, common animals, many animals, or, if you are unlucky, maybe not a single animal.
