EIGHT LEGS

It isn’t always easy to work out which species an individual animals belongs to. You can get quite far by simply counting how many legs the animals has. If, for example, it has six, then it is an insect. If it has 14 legs, then it is a woodlouse, and if it has eight, then it is an arachnid. When we are talking about arachnid then we are talking about a group of animals, which contain some of the world’s most unpopular animals. For example, ticks – a kind of mite which many people despise; spiders – that even more people are terrified of; not to mention harvestmen, which give lots of people the creeps and are often confused with crane flies, even though the two groups have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Arachnids don’t have wings, another important identifier for them, and they can, of course – spiders in particular – spin webs.
