EVERYTHING THAT GROWS
Many things grow in the Bøtø area. Plants - grasses, flowers, bushes and ferns of course. Many kinds of moss and, above all, the lichens. They are all unusual, many of them are weird and they are all worth a closer look. Lichens are probably the most peculiar. A lichen isn’t a single organism, but actually a combination of a fungus, an algae and up to several different microorganisms, that together form rich and colourful crusts on stones and trees, or small, twisted branches and orange-sized tufts. Then there are the mosses, which can cover tree trunks and the ground in thick, green carpets and a diverse, colourful range of flowers. The advantages of all these distinctive organisms is that they stay put. This makes them very good subjects for photos, so remember to bring your camera on your walk!
