AQUATIC ANIMALS
The small lakes and ponds in the Bøtø area are home to a long list of aquatic animals. You will need a net and a tray or a bucket if you want to look at them more closely, and there are lots of things to do and see if you spend the day on a pond-walk. Remember to always put the animals back where you found them. One type of animal living in the water is the larvae of the many dragonflies you can see flying around in the area. The lakes and ditches are full of pond skaters that dance almost weightlessly over the surface of the water, trying to avoid the many whirligig beetles that sail around in small circles around each other like runaway speedboats. Under the water it’s like a jungle, with numerous predators hunting each other and lots of small animals – from the ravenous diving beetles and their larvae to common backswimmers which attack small animals and suck out their insides – and every now and then might try to bite a human! Happy hunting and remember a net!
