The Danish animal world is mostly quite peaceful. There aren’t many of the deadly creatures of the tropics – tigers that can kill a person with one strike; hippopotamuses that can bite a boat in two; venomous snakes with their fatal fangs, or spiders that can send you on a long-term hospital visit if you get too close.

There are, however, quite a few animals that can give you a painful sting, or make you itch for days, or animals whose bite can make your blood flow (luckily, they are pretty small, so it isn’t as bad as it sounds). There are also a couple of animals that can transmit serious diseases if you aren’t careful. But to be fair, it should be mentioned that some of them can actually be deadly – if you are allergic to them, that’s a very good reason to be careful. But luckily most of them are more annoying than dangerous.

And then we have a group of imposters – animals that pretend to be dangerous, but really aren’t at all!
